Notting Hill Carnival: A revelry of London’s British-Caribbean community to go virtual

It will be the first time ever in the history of 54 years when such an extravaganza as this is going to be celebrated off the streets with virtual fanfare following the social distancing norms. Organisers may have cancelled the Notting Hill Carnival 2020 yet they managed to keep the spirit alive.

Matthew Phillip, Executive Director of Notting Hill Carnival Ltd said, “Not having Notting Hill Carnival on the street this year was an incredibly sad but vital decision that was unavoidable for the safety of millions that attend. With Notting Hill Carnival 2020: Access All Areas we wanted to ensure that the vibrancy, sounds and culture was still given an opportunity to flourish in 2020.”

Radio presenters DJ Ace and Remel London are to host the digital event for this year’s Notting Hill Carnival.Four channels will stream performances and entertainment over the bank holiday weekend from 29 August. It will start with a live countdown on the large screen at Piccadilly Circus.

Notting Hill is a grand two day annual street festival that takes place in London which is all about the joie de vivre of Caribbean people, their arts and culture, music, food and dancing. The first festival was in 1966 and it was curated by a lady called Rhaune Laslett. She lived in Notting Hill with her mum and dad, and wanted to highlight and celebrate the diversity in her area by putting on the festivals. By and by the festival turned into a grand event which now attracts millions of people.
