Jodhpur Unites Tradition and Innovation in Its First Art Festival

Jodhpur is gearing up for its inaugural Art Event, running from October 15th to 20th. Spearheaded by the Public Arts Trust of India, this exciting festival will feature a variety of artistic showcases and activities at the backdrop of Jodhpur’s remarkable architecture.

The Public Arts Trust of India (PATI) is introducing a new initiative in Jodhpur, where global artistic voices will intersect with the city’s vibrant heritage. Sana Rezwan notes that Jodhpur’s remarkable architecture offers a fitting stage for this creative exchange. The program will enliven historic spaces, uniting artists and designers through engaging exhibitions and performances, sparking fresh dialogues in art and culture.

The event will showcase historic venues in the walled city, such as the Ghanta Ghar and Toorji Ka Jhalra. Sana Rezwan aims to promote artistic growth through collaborative efforts and meaningful conversations. This focus will illuminate the creative processes often overlooked in the arts. The festival presents a captivating blend of art that intertwines nature with the man-made. Highlights include Petra Cortright’s digital exploration, Ujjwal Agarwal’s responsive installation at the Clock Tower, and Liz West’s site-specific piece inspired by Toorji Ka Jhalra. Kiran Kumar merges performative and plastic art, while Bhimanshu Pandel’s monumental sculpture, Hindolo, celebrates the Khejri tree and will find a permanent home in Mandore Gardens.

As visitors explore the exhibition, they’ll discover that the art is deeply connected to the communities behind it. Sana Rezwan emphasizes the goal of making contemporary art meaningful and accessible, with each piece emerging from collaborations between international artists and local artisans. This enriches the experience and fosters a deeper connection to modern art, reflecting a shared creative journey and the vibrant culture of the area.
