Nazrani Tharavadu in Pala, Kerala, embodies the architectural legacy of the Nazrani community. Next to the mansion is Thekkini, a preserved wing from the 1930s that served as a trading space. This structure highlights Kerala’s indigenous craftsmanship, retaining 85% of its original wooden elements and unique cow dung floors. Now functioning as a museum, Thekkini offers insight into the family’s history and their roots in pepper trading.

John Thomas Kottukapally, chairman of Kottukapally Enterprises, is a key figure in Kerala’s plantation sector. His wife, Thressi, brings hospitality to Nazrani Tharavadu, showcasing her heritage through antique heirlooms and her cookbook, Syrian Christian Favourites. In their Spanish Mansion, guests enjoy traditional Kerala breakfasts and have access to a kitchen, with Thressi offering local dining tips.

Thressi, a captivating storyteller, takes you through Thekkini, sharing family artefacts and leading hands-on cooking classes for traditional Nazrani dishes. Explore the library’s rare finds, then visit the Kottukapally rubber plantation and local handloom weavers. Don’t miss the spiritual sites, including Nalambalam and the Alphonsa Shrine, to enrich your experience.
