Bikaner House Becomes Art Hub for Delhi Contemporary Art Week
This weekend, Bikaner House in Delhi is transformed into a vibrant art hub for the 7th Delhi Contemporary Art Week (DCAW). Featuring over 100 artists, the event spans three spaces: “Threads That Bare” in the main building celebrates textile art; the CCA building blends established and emerging contemporary voices; and Girish Shahane’s “A Bold Step Sideways” explores art from abstract to figurative in the LTA building.
Curator Girish Shahane merges his Mumbai roots with Delhi’s art scene, spotlighting artists prominent in the last 15 years. His curation guides visitors through evolving art practices, from abstract to detailed figurative works.
“Threads That Bare,” curated by Bhavna Kakar with insights from Mayank Mansingh Kaul, explores the profound link between fabric and human experience, addressing themes of intimacy, gender, and environmental concerns.

The surge in textile-based art is seen as part of a broader global trend in the art world’s interest in materiality and gendered art practices. Curators hope this increased focus will lead to a sustainable market for fibre-based artists and more recognition of textiles as a legitimate medium within fine arts.
