CM’s Vision of making Gorakhpur, a textile manufacturing hub may reinstate the migrant labours

Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness a flurry of opportunities in the garment industry as the Chief Minister is envisaging to capitalize on the potential of domestic garment manufacturing. Addressing the representatives of Chamber of Industries in Gorakhpur he remarked that besides boosting the textile industry that also falls in the category of One District One Product (ODOP) industry has the capacity to generate the employment for a multitude of migrant labour returned back to their hometowns during covid-19 lockdown.

CM added that the government is planning to establish a “big training centre” in Gorakhpur and assured the representatives of Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) about the early inauguration of  Udyog Bhavan which is currently being constructed in Gorakhpur.

At present there are about four and a half thousand textile units operating in the state. Of these, about 3000 units are located in Gautam Budh Nagar and remaining 1500 units in Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow and Bareilly which contribute a total of about Rs 22,000 crore in export.
