Eco-Conscious Ganesh Chaturthi in Visakhapatnam

As Ganesh Chaturthi approaches, Visakhapatnam is embracing a greener celebration. Residents are turning to handcrafted clay idols and eco-friendly designs, moving away from traditional plaster of Paris (POP) in favor of sustainable crafting practices.

Manorama Pantula’s residence in MVP Colony is gearing up for Ganesh Chaturthi with nature-inspired ambiance and artisanal cuisine. For over two decades, she has designed celebratory adornments using native flora, steering clear of plastic. Her culinary creations feature aviri kudumu, undrallu (modak), and panasa buttalu, prepared in jackfruit leaves, showcasing her dedication to traditional and eco-friendly methods.

Visakhapatnam artist Moka Vijay Kumar’s Ganesha idol, crafted from sustainable millets, blends innovative design with eco-conscious art. Jansi Tripuraneni, through a hands-on workshop, created her own detailed idol from Araku clay. Her dedication to art and sustainability is clear in her use of 21 types of leaves for decoration, and her practice of reusing materials and recycling post-festival.
