Exhibition Sifts Artisanal Crafts for Culture

Karu presents Gauda in association with The Telegraph recently conducted 3 day event showcasing rich cultural heritage of Bengal including its Art, craft, fashion, culture and literature.

From artisanal jewellery to decor, art and more, the prime objective of the exhibition was to create a supportive and sustainable atmosphere for all artists and admirers of arts and craft. The three day event was held at Daga Nikunj, 25/1, Ballygunge Circular Road, West Bengal.

Celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Bengal was followed by crafts demonstrations, recitals, performances along with panel discussions on topics such as the “Aesthetics of Ancient Bengal” which sparked a fruitful debate.

The event presented the opportunity to explore a range of handcrafted sculptures and artefacts that exude the tradition of Bengal and its ageless grace along with art paying homage to the techniques and traditions of art in Bengal that have thrived for centuries.

Besides traditional arts, apparel and jewellery that depict a blend of the contemporary and the traditional, the display included the collections of Abhishek Roy and Earthaments.

According to Ishan Pattanaik, creative head, Karu, “Gauda is our interpretation of the forms of classical Bengal through accessories and sculpture that speak of a thriving land that once inspired people as far away as Tibet and Burma. We hope to develop and create a sustainable system that helps our artisans learn a nearly lost design language of Eastern India.”
