First Raffles Hotel in Udaipur is an oasis of Rajasthani heritage

After almost a decade of making, the first Raffles hotel in Udaipur is all set to offer the visitors a chance to surfeit their senses on the royal heritage and arts of Rajasthan.

Established in the island city encompassed with Aravali hills, the hotel stands on the expansive property which gives the impression of being a magnificent country estate. Architect Clive Gray of Bangkok-based firm, Randolph Gray Design has done a tremendous job to amalgamate the elements of Mughal architecture and arts by engaging local artisans for interiors.

The hotel is nothing less than an architectural marvel with its royal zenanas graced with delicate pastels, mirrors, natural lighting and an elaborate  embroidered canopy. The Long Bar is crafted with European wood and leather decor with murals and wood-and-stone engravings by local artisans. The decor reflects palatial marriage between East-West aesthetics with murals, handcrafted wooden chests and artwork designed by local craftisans.

The patrons with literary interests cant afford to miss the coveted Writers Bar, which has been quite a sensations for the likes of Rudyard Kipling, Ernest Hemingway and Somerset Maugham—who have stayed for long periods of time at the Raffles hotels.Indian franchise is hoping to conjure up  that magic here too. In Udaipur, the Writers Bar is fitted with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a library of more than five thousand books, creative cocktails (an Oxymoron features tequila, fennel, egg white, Cabernet sauvignon, homemade lemon liqueur) and a Champagne-caviar men.

With Covid-19 shuttered hotels across globe, its time to open up with caution, the new openings like Raffles Udaipur are focusing on innovative redesigns as a wave of optimism is permeating the industry through interiors that exude joyful maximalism. After spending a  long time in our own homes over the last year, we are being a bit more fearless to relish on aesthetics and culture.
