Fusion clusters for khadi, chikankari and zardosi work to be set up in Lucknow

Adopting ‘Flatted Factory Model’ is a thoughtful initiative to create a beehive of manufacturing clusters associated with traditional Chikan and Zari work at regional level where there is want of industrial space.

Banking on the potential of youth to drive the traditional textile industries, UP State Industrial Development Authority had already adopted a flatted factory model which involves setting up non-polluting industrial units in multi-storeyed buildings. Such establishments will support non-polluting manufacturing work like tailoring, handmade or machine-made leather goods, pickle units in the cities like Agra, Kanpur and Gorakhpur.

The concept bodes well for the cities having industrial hubs and are very much in the want of   space with limited space as it yields more activity in a limited space with considerably low investment. Minimum land requirement of 5 acres has been set for development of such a factory which cannot be developed in a residential area or mixed land used area.

Recently approved fusion clusters will be hosting all the facilities like training of workers to provide machinery and assistance in branding of products associated with  khadi, zari zardosi work and chikankari embroidery done on various types of  fabrics.

As per cluster policy, the upper limit for a single cluster is Rs 15 crore which is share between centre and state as 60% and 40% respectively.Besides creating employment opportunities at regional level, the project is also  conceived to boost export from Uttar Pradesh as Chikankari and Zari work fabrics are one of the most sought after articles by fast fashion brands in west.
