Hampi Tables: A Modern Twist on Historical Elegance

Magari and architect Amaresh Anand’s new collection blends local craft traditions with human-centered design, creating bespoke furniture that marries artistry with comfort.

When Amaresh Anand’s young daughter Krithi, an avid reader and art enthusiast, came to him with a design brief for a cozy and comfortable piece of furniture, the Krithi single-seater sofa was born. This inventive redesign of the classic single-seater features a gently curved enclosure, offering a womb-like sense of comfort.

The Krithi single-seater not only met its design brief but also led to the creation of Amaresh Anand Design, which began in his home studio. After eight years of refining his collection, Anand sought a partnership with local brand Magari. Their shared values and strong national presence made Magari the ideal collaborator to expand his collection.

“I fondly remember playing with Channapatna toys as a child and introducing them to my kids,” Anand reflects. The Hampi table captures this warmth, combining style and functionality with a playful tribute to the architect’s home state.

Anand’s travels have imparted a unique blend of local and global influences to his work, exemplified by the Hampi tables. These tables reinterpret the stone columns from the 15th-century Hazara Rama temple in Hampi, featuring softly rounded wooden bases. Finished in a vivid Channapatna lacquer, they combine historical reverence with contemporary flair.
