Hopes fly thick in Gujarat’s textile market as export orders kick in
Witnessing export orders from Europe, USA, New Zealand and Australia, the textile industry in Gujarat has a reason to cheer after a long spell of lukewarm global demand.
As textile manufacturers started operations from the last few months, receiving sporadic demands from domestic buyers, they have now seemingly managed to exhaust unsold inventory and commenced manufacturing afresh.
According to the Chairman of the trade committee, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), some importers from the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand have shifted their focus to Indian suppliers instead of China, Pakistan and Turkey. Suppliers in Pakistan and Turkey have capacity restrictions while China is facing ethical and trust deficit issues. Home textiles and cotton fabrics have seen the highest recovery.
Industry is also reaping the benefits from the textile exhibition FABEXA 2020,organized by one of the oldest cloth markets in the country, Maskati Mahajan from August to November. This one of a kind event was Gujarat’s First Virtual Textile Exhibition which saw the participants from 52 countries.
