Commanding Indian’s long-held penchant for color by pacing contemporary pieces amid traditional features, the Architect Shantanu Garg has created a lively space in heart of the pink city that privileges experimentation.
Designed for the Mangals, two brothers, and their families, the uniquely designed mansion by Interior & Product Designer, Shantanu Garg metamorphoses into a home as its inhabitants embrace it with warmth. He indeed has created an inviting environment within the realm of that space elevates the experience.
According to the designer as client members were keen on colors and traditional details so he too borrowed their affinities and interweaved them into their lifestyle.
Modern elements like chevron and rhombus patterns blended with an arrayed color palette liven up to form distinctive elements of a unified whole.
The interiors seem to challenge the very notion of Indianness beyond ornamentation and ethnicity. Embodying the idea of India Modern for the palatial abode spanning 25,000 sq ft and 10 bedrooms, as the designer explains to Elle Decor. This home is not ethnic, in fact, he wanted to project Indian culture beyond ethnicity by redefining and raising the bar of all things Indian.
Drawing inspiration from Pichwai style interiors in Lord Krishna’s temples as well as Mughal concepts of Diwan-e-Khaas the home reflects the country’s diversity besides it celebrated myriad folklores, and ideas that are immutably Indian.
Partitioning the dining and seating area is Harem, the leather boiserie with a graphic by Shantanu Garg Design that celebrates the monumental scale of Indian architectural heritage.
The home strikes a perfect balance between modernity and tradition, spaces that are extroverted yet encompass cozy cocoons for solitude and oneness.
The color and India-inspired translations are not merely a manifestation of an artist’s imagination and prerogative to his project. They find a way into everyday utility and functions that were outlined as a part of the homeowner’s brief.
Even in his earlier project, Garg has always been incorporating artisanal elements like brass and thikri work, kaleera columns, and hand-painted wall in contemporary homes to create an amazing contrast. The hand-painted elements are an ode to traditional art but it certainly demands a modern approach.
