Karnataka’s 400 acre toy manufacturing cluster in Koppal can be bright spot in domestic toy market

The upcoming special economic zone (SEZ) at Koppal district in Karnataka has attracted the investment of Rs 4000 crore at the toy cluster by Aequs and its joint venture partners together. Six global toy manufacturers will be installing the manufacturing unit at the area sprawling over 400 acres. These companies will be manufacturing mechanical and electronic toys, packing materials and components with advanced technology.

According to Aravind Melligeri, Chairman & CEO, Aequs Group, “MoUs with six companies such as from Vietnam, Hong Kong and others are being signed. The entire SEZ will be developed in phases and over the next five years, it will create direct jobs for 25,000 persons and indirect jobs for 1 lakh people.”

The total investment will be shared by JV partners who will invest Rs 2,500 crore and the Aequs Group with another round of investment of Rs 1,500 crore to create the basic infrastructure at the SEZ. Of this, around Rs 700 crore will be pumped in creating infrastructure and logistics facilities.

Located on National Highway 63, the Koppal Toy Cluster has access to the highway, ports, airports and major cities. It will have dedicated railway siding, roads, and other logistics facilities.

Efforts have also been made to include toys under production linked incentives (PLI) schemes to reduce dependence on China.
