Miniature wooden replica of Puri’s Jagganath temple carved by teen artist from Odisha

Having already earned the reputation of a Grand Master in India and Asia book of records, it took over a month for Dilip Maharana, 18 to ensure the fine details in such a reduced scale.

Ever since the pandemic has started, many artists from Odisha have made sensational highlights globally by their creative skills. Their ability to create spectacular artefacts and replicas has left people astounded.

Now, an 18-year-old Dilip paid unreserved attention to ensure that details in the replica justify the actual grandeur of Puri’s famous Jagannath Temple. The young artist created arches and architectural structure in exact proportion to the Jagannath Temple. The artefact is 5.5 inches high, the length was 12 inches, and the width of the replica was 9 inches.

Hailing from Behrampur, first-year B.Com student decided to make the most of the time spent in confinement at home due to the COVID-19 induced restrictions and has created over 10 large and small temple structures in miniature replicas.

Previously, he had built a temple of Lord Ram and an idol of an inch Goddesses Durga for which he earned a reputation as Grand Master in the India and Asia Book of Records.

It is apparent that the question of scale had played into his enthusiasm. There seems to be a fascination in the things taken out of their natural scale. Be it big or small, the very action of changing their scale makes them symbolic and at the same time renders them useless. They make the brain leap a little to try to fit it into its predisposed categories.
