New York set to pick Saffron from Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization and US-India Strategic Partnership Forum are jointly putting up a virtual promotional event scheduled on November 18 at Consulate General of India (CGI) in New York inviting the saffron traders of J&K to connect them to potential buyers in the United States.

Some months back, the CGI in New York requested the information regarding the Saffron exporters in J&K in an official letter written to the JKTPO which read, “We have been working to increase the exports of Indian Saffron in the US market, it is requested that reputed exporters of Saffron may kindly to connected to us so as to enable us link them to potential US importers.”
 
In order to extend this branding exercise for other local products as well JKTPO is trying to engage with embassies and consulates in other parts of the world.
 
Govt is also trying the to expand the vistas for saffron production, recently  the seeds transported from Kashmir to Sikkim, and acclimatized there are now flowering in Yangyang in the Southern part of the North-East state as.Saffron production has long been restricted to a limited geographical area in the Union territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Pampore region, in India, commonly known as Saffron bowl of Kashmir, is the main contributor to saffron production, followed by Budgam, Srinagar, and Kishtwar districts. Saffron has traditionally been associated with the famous Kashmiri cuisine.
