Revolutionizing Military Infrastructure by Designing the Permanent Defence (Bunker)

Near Razdan Pass in Jammu & Kashmir, where harsh winters prevails, R+D Studio’s innovative solution, the Permanent Defence (Bunker), built with Silica Composite Hollow Blocks (SCHB), sets a new standard in resilient military infrastructure at 14,000 feet.

Commissioned by the 2 Engineer Regiment of the Chinar Corps, Indian Army, R+D Studio aimed to improve living conditions at an outpost near Razdan Pass, Jammu & Kashmir, at 14,000 feet.

Drawing from traditional sandbag methods, they developed Silica Composite Hollow Blocks (SCHB) from recycled foundry dust and plastic waste. Each SCHB, measuring 13″ x 9″ x 6″ and weighing 7.5 kg, offers exceptional durability—three times stronger than conventional bricks.

Beyond its military role, SCHB technology enhances protection, boosts operational resilience, and leverages recycled plastic for minimal environmental impact and future innovation.

The bunker’s tiered walls taper from three layers at the base to one at the top, designed to withstand severe weather, including 25 feet of snowfall. Each SCHB wall layer is reinforced with compacted earth for insulation and bulletproofing.

An Infra-Red Heating System (IRHS) plate provides warmth in temperatures as low as -20°C, ensuring operational comfort during deployment.
