Telangana seeks fund from centre to develop mega textile park

In order to develop handloom sector and textile park in the state, Minister of IT, Municipal Administration and Urban Development of Telangana, K T Rama Rao has requested the government in a letter written to Union Minister for Women Child Development and Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani seeking funds in upcoming budgetary allocation due for 2021-22.

State govt is keen to develop The Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP), Handlooms and Mega Powerloom Cluster at Sircilla, the core infrastructure works would cost approximately Rs 1,094 crore, out of total cost of the project which is estimated to be Rs 1552 crore.

According to Rao, KMTP project can be taken up under Mega Textile Parks Scheme of the centre, the total capital of Rs 500 crore is available for the same but for the commencement of the external infrastructure approximately Rs 300 cr of this amount is needed urgently. The infrastructure development will help obliterate many oddities through the expansion of production base, strengthening value chain, market development, skill development, capacity building and project monitoring costs of textile park at weaving and apparel park at Sircilla.

Minister also requested for sanctioning of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (I.I.H.T) in Telangana State. As of now there is hardly any Institute in the state to offer a course in diploma in handloom Technology and the students are bound to shit to neighbouring states for such courses.
