Aney Villa, a 4,000-square-foot home in Alibaug by Yash and Prachi Rai Warde, blends whimsical cottagecore charm with sustainability. Designed for seniors Mahesh and Anjali Aney—a filmmaker and ceramic artist—the L-shaped house also accommodates Anjali’s mother and their five dogs. Combining practicality with Vastu principles, the Wardes share the inspirations behind this unique home.
One suite boasts expansive views of rice fields, while another faces a mango orchard. The property’s farm yields organic produce. A spiral staircase ascends to a loft with a 22-foot ceiling, overlooking the spacious living area with shifting artworks. The curved verandah, often enjoyed by a lounging dog, is ideal for savoring the breeze and coastal rain.

The Vastu-inspired bungalow features accessible main floor spaces, ramps, and pet doors. A 100-meter drive through an orchard leads to a diamond-shaped living and dining area with an impressive lattice ceiling. The interior includes repurposed teak furniture and a curated art collection, with a pool view that captures the morning light.
Beyond the living room, a poolside hallway leads to the master bedroom with large windows and a terracotta jali. The kitchen connects to a spiral staircase to a mezzanine nook for the granddaughters with a walk-in wardrobe. A corridor leads to a similar second bedroom. The 12-foot verandah wraps around and is accessible from all main areas. A walkway from the courtyard leads to Anjali’s studio, Mati Moksha.
