At G7 summit, world leaders get the essence of Indian art & crafts

Presenting a plethora of gifts handcrafted by artisans hailing from different states, Prime Minister Modi, who is in Germany to attend the G7 summit, stole the hearts of world leaders representing their respective countries.

The Prime Minister gifts an array of handicrafts from various states while attending the G7 Summit in Germany displaying India’s rich art and skillful craft tradition.

A Gulabi Meenakari brooch and cufflink set, made in Varanasi was presented to US President Joe Biden. These cufflinks were specially prepared for the President with a matching brooch for the First Lady. Gulabi Meenakari is also a GI-tagged art form.

A platinum hand painted tea set, made by Bulandshahr artisans for UK PM Boris Johnson. The crockery is outlined with platinum metal paint in honour of the Queen’s platinum jubilee being celebrated this year. Embossed outlines are laid on manually with Mehndi cone work

The famous Black pottery pieces from Nizamabad, Azamgarh is presented to Japan PM Fumio Kishida. The special type of  pottery uses a unique technique to bring out the black colour. Raw pieces are baked in the oven at very high heat without the availability of oxygen.

With Ramayana tradition an enduring part of Indonesian culture, he gifted lacquerware “Ram Durbar” to President Joko Widodo. Lacquerware art-form is also a GI tagged with its origin in Varanasi.

Dhokra Art with Ramayana theme from Chattisgarh for South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa. Dhokra Art is non–ferrous metal casting art using the lost-wax casting technique. This sort of metal casting has been used in India for over 4,000 years and is still used.

A Nandi-themed Dhokra art from Chattisgarh for Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández. This particular art-piece is a figure of ‘Nandi –The Meditative Bull’. In Hindu mythology, Nandi is considered the vehicle of Lord Shiva.

Hand-knotted silk carpet, made by Kashmiri artisans is presented to PM Justin Trudeau of Canada. The hand-knotted silk carpets are famous all over the world for their sheen and soft texture .
