About the Workshop
Cheriyal scroll painting is one of the earliest forms of audio – visual entertainment and these paintings are prepared by only Nakashi caste people in Telangana state. Hundreds of year ago, the story telling communities used to travel through the villages of Telangana, singing and narrating stories using the scroll as their visual aid.
The scroll measures about 3 feet in width and can extend over 60 feet. The scrolls contain about 40 to 50 panels, each depicting a part of the story and would be displayed as the story unfolds.. Their work is mainly focused on community specific storyline. - Pencil, eraser, scale
- 12” by 12” canvas or handmade paper
- Acrylic colours or poster colours, Colour pallet, water bowl
- Round Brushes-000,2,4,6,8
Practising the cheriyal scroll painting art since 2008, DHANALAKOTA VINAY KUMAR inherited the folk art from his father D.VAIKUNTAM ( National Awardee).
He has been taking WORKSHOP with CRAFTS COUNCIL OF INDIA, Chennai since 2010. His artworks grace the galleries of CENTRE VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM at LONDON & INDIAN AND SOUTH ASIAN STUDIES at PARIS.
