Cultivating women entrepreneurs: FICCI FLO, IESC and IIM Shillong to jointly mentor fledgling start-ups

The women wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), FLO (FiCCI Ladies Organisation) has signed an agreement with Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong and Incubation and Enterprise Support Centre (IESC) to facilitate the budding women entrepreneurs by mentoring them during the starting phase of their ventures.

According to Jahnabi Phookan, President, FICCI FLO, the mentor-ship would enable us to create a self-relying entrepreneurial ecosystem for women, that empowers them and helps them become job creators and not mere job seekers.

No economy, be it a developed or developing can grow at its full potential until the financial inclusion of all the workforce regardless of its gender and socio-politics is realised. The universities has a great role to play when it comes to funding female-led innovation which aims at thriving on disrupting ideas.

According to Shishir Kumar Bajoria, Chairman, IIM Shillong Boards of Governors, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to guide the fledgling women entrepreneurs in the manner of providing instructive and supportive environment during the initial and critical stages of starting a business, thus enabling them to reduce the initial startup costs and establish themselves them in short span of time.

In pursuance of the agreement the it is expected from national incubation to build a sustainable ecosystem within FLO to identify the potential women start-ups so that more women can be incorporated in financial activities.
