Drive-Thru Exhibitions can be a way Forward

Museums and art galleries around the world can take the inspiration from Rotterdam Ahoy and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, which have jointly divined a singular way of curating the exhibition on lines of drive-in theatres. Many other cultural institutes are also contemplating on announcing drive-thru art exhibitions to draw the visitors while complying with new health and safety regulations.

Exhibition ‘Boijmans Ahoy Drive-Thru Museum’ is something which organisers hail as ‘corona proof plan’. An event announced by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen which will allow 750 visitors in a day to drive around the precincts displaying the artworks. Patrons has to arrive in their electric cars or they can hire from any local dealer to explore the intrigues of art offered by the event.

Articulating the need of the hour, Jolanda Jansen, General Director of Rotterdam Ahoy says, “We are living in a distressing time but also one that demands inventive solutions. It is wonderful to see how this unique idea and partnership has come about. Through the creativity and determination of both organisations and our many supportive partners, next month we will offer the public a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”


In these desperate times The Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is not the only cultural institution mounting a drive-in exhibition amidst the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused the closure of a great number of museums worldwide and has hitherto made the culture life of cities defunt.
