Khadi rides high as sustainable alternative to fashion, launched a range of footwear

Eyeing on the overseas market by offering an array of accessories like masks, fashion clothing, bags, food items and personal care products, Khadi MSMEs have recently launched the khadi fabric footwear under Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Nitin Gadkari, while launching the footwear on KVIC’s web portal laid emphasis on khadi’s potential to capture the international market, generate additional employment and higher income for khadi artisans.

Khadi India can capture a market worth Rs 5,000 crore only by developing and marketing the sustainable and environment friendly alternative to the fashion accessories.Talking about the vision behind launching Khadi Fabric Footwear, Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, KVIC said,”the idea was to tap the international market where a large section of international consumers are increasingly going vegan and hence, Khadi will become a preferred choice of this segment.”

Being a industry worth 50,000 crore which exports merchandise worth close to Rs 18,000 crore, the footwear sector seems to have a lot of potential.KVIC is initially targeting to capture a trifle 2 percent of the industry, as informed by Saxena.
