Astronomical rise in registration of micro industries on govt’s Udhyam portal scheme

With more than 20 lakhs entrants, registrations on  govt’s end-to-end paperless scheme, Udhayam almost doubled in the last three months.

Ever since the enactment of the new registration portal launched by the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises with the amendments in the definition of MSMEs, there is a whopping rise in the number of registrations as more than 20 lakh applicants have already been registered so far as per the recent figures shared my MSME minister.

The portal does not require any document or proof except the Aadhaar number for registration of MSMEs. Besides this a single window system at champion control rooms has been set up by the government at MSME Development Institutes across India, and district industries centres for facilitating the process.

At the announcement of the portal last year business had sought clarity on the validity of prior registrations which has been clarified by the govt.

According to Sanjiv Layek, Executive Secretary, World Association For Small And Medium Enterprises (WASME), “The portal will help the government in identifying the possible beneficiaries of various schemes and packages announced for MSMEs such as collateral-free credit, subordinate debt for distressed MSMEs and pass these benefits directly to them. This will also help in saving time and cost for small businesses.”
