‘Cut From The Same Cloth’- An exhibition by Seema Kohli at Bikaner House sings peans to feminine mystique

Smitten by the verses of revered saints like Kabir, Nanak, Baba Farid, Bulleh Shah, and Shah Hussain, Kohli’s 15 artworks embroidered with silk and cotton threads, beads, and sequins on an untreated canvas cloth explore various dimensions of feminine forms.

In a bid to celebrate the female form and explore its power in relation with the spiritual cosmos, Kohli has conjured up the amalgamation of beauty, sensuality, and spirituality with mythological figures of India.

Apart from this, the show organised by Gallerie Nvya also features three paintings in acrylics with gold and silver leaf on canvas, as well as two works on gold tissue, bringing together painting and embroidery.

According to her, the female figure is an embodiment of the cosmic feminine energy of Shakti as the source of all creation, she engages with ancient symbols and narratives, imbuing them with new forms and meanings, which are steeped in their history and yet transcends the the creeds and territories.

During the design of the project, Kohli also acquired a weaving loom and a charkha from Panipat weavers which is part of the installation.

Also, a part of the project will be a multi-dimensional performance on August 3 that will bring together animation, music, poetry, and movement.

“My Cloak Made of Colour, Air and Songs” , another multi-dimensional project of Kohli’s artworks will bring together animation, music, poetry, and movement on August 3 wherein various musicians will exhibit the multi-genre performance.
