India- UK partnership can forge green global trade to deliver sustainable progress

After Brexit, the UK and India are exploring the  vistas in bilateral trade in order to generate employment opportunities that resonate with the Paris Agreement.

International Trade Secretary of the UK, Liz Truss in her recent 5-day visit to India presses on paving the path to a potential future free trade deal by deepening  trading ties with the world’s largest democracy.

“We will be collaborating much more closely in the industries of tomorrow like science, tech and green growth, so we can build back better and deliver an export-led, investment-led, jobs-led recovery from coronavirus,”  said Truss.

India has historical trade links with the UK, currently  a potential market of 1.4 billion people. Truss agreed an outline of a new Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP) with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, as part of the development of a roadmap that would lead to a potential comprehensive FTA, including considerations on an Interim Agreement on preferential basis.

Efforts are being made in terms of supporting reforms to the business environment in India through sharing UK expertise and experiences on a range of areas including better regulation, trading across borders, and standards to make it easier for UK investors and exporters to do business in India.
