Never mind sound, their sturdy designs recall a vintage routine

On the occasion of World Radio Day (13th Feb), Outreach International Radio Fair (OIRF), Bhubaneshwar showcased thousands of old, new and antique radio sets, broadcasting equipment to the public display. 
 
Radio repairing shops, new radio sets for sale, handmade radio shops were also set up at the fair. The fair enthralled visitors with assortments of vintage  radio sets who may have been muted now but their designs sift out the real treasures from the routine.
 
Outreach International Radio Fair is organised every year to increase radio listenership, sensitise broadcasters on the importance of radio in public service and encourage youngsters to choose radio as a career. According to the chief convenor of OIRF, Subrat Kumar, the fair also presents a tribute to the radio jockeys (RJs) who continued their broadcasts during the initial days of the pandemic.
 
The event was joined by the  broadcasting equipment manufacturers from different parts of India and abroad and other stakeholders of broadcast service – radio jockeys, broadcasters, media policymakers, representatives of governments and radio station professionals. 
 
Proclaimed in 2011 by member states of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Radio Day is celebrated  every year on February 13, it is adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day to raise awareness about the importance of radio as a medium among people.
