Skilled youth from India to shine at the WorldSkills Competition 2022, Shanghai
The IndiaSkills 2021 competition winners are undergoing training mainly in three trades the Carpentry, Joinery, and Cabinet Making to represent the country at the coveted 46th WorldSkills Competition which will be held on October 12-17, 2022, in Shanghai, China.
The national competition to select students for World Skills Competition was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 6th to 10th January 2022. The Selection Tests for sending more students from ITIs and other institutions are still underway with the support of industry partners in Mumbai, Gandhidham, and Udaipur as part of the preparation for the main competition.
The WorldSkills Competition has gained currency over the years among innovative youth and has become a global hub for skill excellence, bringing together skilled youth of diverse backgrounds and nations. Currently, India is preparing the students in 3 trades, Cabinet Making, Joinery, and Carpentry.

However, the closed-door competition, organized by the National Skill Development Corporation under the guidance of MSDE, witnessed participation in total 54 skills such as Joinery, visual merchandising, graphic design technology, beauty therapy, car painting, health and social care, and wall & floor tiling, welding, among others.
Santosh Ojha, who studied carpentry ITI Cuttack aced India Skills 21 in cabinet making. will represent India at World Skills 2022 in Shanghai.
IndiaSkills Competition has brought together over 500 participants from 26 states/ union territories this year. Of the 150+ winners, 59 were awarded gold medals with a cash prize of INR 100,000, 73 were given silver medals with a prize money of INR 75,000 and 53 received bronze medals with a cash prize of INR 50,000.This year’s IndiaSkills Competition has raised the bar of skill development by witnessing over 2.5 lakh registrations in August-September 2021.
