Whiskier glow of Mumbai’s mysterious heritage clock tower restored by designer Kanchan Puri

One of the most iconic heritage structures in South Mumbai, Rajabai Clock Tower now dazzles in golden hue and can be cherished from miles off after lightning designer Kanchan Puri undertook the task to illuminate its glory.

Mumbai’s 142 year old Rajabai clock tower is an iconic 280-ft structure located on the University’s Fort campus which has undergone a massive transformation done by Puri’s company, KSA which was approached to design the lighting for the heritage building.

What seemingly looks like a conglomeration of  Victorian, Gothic and Islamic architecture,  the Porbunder stone establishment remains one of the striking  spectacles in a fast-changing skyline.

Earlier KSA has worked on the projects  such as design lighting for the 2,000-year-old, Unesco world heritage site  Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad,  Jawaharlal Nehru’s one-time home, Teen Murti Bhavan, in Delhi; and for the Asiatic Library in Mumbai and many other commercial structures.

As it is considered as a beacon of the city’s architectural  heritage  the idea was not to just light it up and make it into some sort of a fairyland with all the vivacity of colours under the sun but It had to be an elegant show of architectural quality and  have to be lit in a manner to  tell a  story.
