Are Exotic Skins in the Obsolescence?

As demand shifts towards sustainable fashion accessories, vegan leather is emerging as a unique alternative to animal leather. Arture is a one such brand, founded by Shivani Patel who has been experimenting with Cactus leather to make suave and velvety pouches which have leathrish feel.

Arture started to materialise the idea of making vegan fabric bags after drawing the inspiration from Mexico based designers Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez who devised the first ever cactus based leather in 2019. According to the founder, when it comes to luxury, cactus leather looks classy because of its inviting texture. Earlier she has worked with cork which is relatively coarse.

The brand offers a range of svelte looking vegan bags in various colours which can be distinguished for their adaptability and multipurposes usage as they come handy in both formal and functional uses. Overall, compared to cork, cactus leather is more flexible and lends well to drapey silhouettes. As a result Shivani is now working on a range of belts.

Cactus Leather, is partially biodegradable and has the technical specifications required by the fashion, leather goods, furniture and even automotive industries. Thanks to its high resistance and durability of (minimum) 10 years, this organic, sustainable product can replace the use of animal leather and other synthetic materials that are not environmentally friendly.
