Making a case for multiple uses of Bamboo
Touted as a miracle crop,there is no second thought that bamboo can be used for everything from food to clothing material to scaffolding for building construction, MSME minister proclaimed the potential of industry to be worth Rs 30000 crore in a virtual exhibition on Bamboo Technology.
Addressing a virtual exhibition organised by the Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) on Bamboo Technology, Products and Services, Minister of micro small and medium enterprises, Nitin Gadkari assured all the assistance from the ministry for any scheme related to promotion of bamboo.
He said that bamboo has potential to be used as an alternative to coal and can also be used in construction. The use of jute and coir mattresses is soon going to be made mandatory for all NHAI roads. He advocated varied use of traditional materials like jute, coir and bamboo by developing them further.
Proclaiming the future prospects he said, “with the integrated efforts from all stakeholders, bamboo industry in India will be worth 25-30 thousand crore rupees.”
