Textile Ministry devising plan to use e-commerce for Silk Mark products, Toys and Handicrafts

Ministry of Textiles is in talks with e- commerce majors for online promotion of 100 percent Silk Mark products of Authorized Users who get the technical support from Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI) and its silk testing laboratories in major cities and silk clusters, SMOi ensures the quality of Silk products and promoted by the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, and the Government of India.

SMOI has already engaged Amazon into an agreement for online promotion of the 100% pure silk products with ‘Silk Mark’ by the Authorized Users of Silk Mark.

Government has also prepared a National Action Plan in order to promote the toy industry which includes handmade toys and other handicrafts, The plan is to be implemented from February 27 with collaboration of 14 ministries/departments. It allows the “need-based” interventions by states for holistic development of toy industry in 13 identified handicrafts toy cluster

According to the Ministry of textile, besides Government E-Market Portal (GeM) which already sells the products of local artisans and weavers directly to the customers, a direct marketing platform is also being developed by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under Digital India Program to promote local products made by artisans/weavers.
