The Dubai showroom of Jaipur Rugs is actually a renovated Warehouse designed by Roar architecture in vibrant pink textures

Nothing quite matches but everything rolls with it in the first of its kind showroom for Jaipur Rugs in the UAE. Designed by the Roar Architecture and Interior Design Studio the store takes cue from  the rich heritage of Jaipur.

Roar converts a dysfunctional 780 sq m warehouse into a vibrant Jaipur Rugs showroom at Dubai’s creative Alserkal Avenue.

The showroom commands the attention of the people through its distinctive pink hues and recurring stairs and arches offering a hospitable space for visitors.

According to Founder and Creative Director of Roar, Pallavi Dean, “We alluded to Jaipur’s most emblematic spaces in a playful, contemporary manner. A key component that kept returning in our research was the city’s ponds – water has a special significance in Hindu mythology, believed to be a boundary between heaven and earth – for centuries, the stepped ponds have played a significant role in functioning as traditional water systems, as well as being hubs of social and cultural interactions.”

“Transposed into an interior setting, this element brings a very special spacial experience for the visitor. At the same time, we pay homage to the elaborate classical Indian painted surfaces and crafts by recreating a rich, textural decor,” she asserts.

The showroom has two parts besides the main floor-to-ceiling rug display  hall in which visitors are greeted by a vast open-plan space.

“Rug libraries” are featured in the ground floor that exhibit products through custom-made sliding panels in various rooms fitted with Sapphire, Emerald, and Rubis dedicated to Jaipur Rugs’ acclaimed Manchaha collections.

These rooms allow visitors to admire rugs created by artisans as part of the company’s social enterprise initiative, which empowers weavers with creative freedom.

The mezzanine area houses manager offices and a team workspace, including a communal table for designers to collaborate. The space also incorporates closed offices and meeting rooms for privacy and convenience.

The showroom is an art-like installation—an unbounded ribbon of rugs, reminiscent of the infinite repetition found in pond architecture.

The showroom’s lighting design, featuring the Gabriel Chandelier, creates a captivating and sophisticated atmosphere, reminiscent of Jaipur’s beautiful jewels. Pendant lights cascade, resembling a radiant necklace adorned with exquisite gemstones, adding an element of glamour to the space.

Even the bathrooms within the showroom exhibit elements inspired by Jaipur’s vibrant culture. Bold decor elements, including patterned tiles and stylish sanitary ware, create an immersive experience that embraces the age-old art of the city.

The studio is credited with building spaces that merge with the artistic flair, Roar has created many prestigious projects across the Middle East, including the Research Technology and Innovation Park at the American University of Sharjah, SensAsia Spa at The Kempinski Hotel Dubai, and private residences.
